Kay grew up in Orange, TX and graduated from Stark High School. She is the youngest of 3 children. Her father served in the infantry in World War II. She began working at Palais Royal Department Store in Orange after graduating. In 1963, she married Joe Dan Harris and they had three sons.
Kay has always been involved in volunteer work. She served multiple terms as PTA president as each of her children went through elementary school. Kay and her husband were always entrepreneurs. First, they had greenhouses where they raised and sold ornamental plant and seedling vegetables. Ultimately, in the early 1980s, Kay started her own floral shop. She always had a flair for design and interior decorating. She would run that business until their retirement in 1998. It was common when a stillborn child, mother, grandmother, or anyone else who had an underprivileged situation in life, to suddenly have a beautiful casket spray for which no one would ever receive a bill. Her generous nature continues. Since retirement, she has tirelessly worked with the CPS board, the Hill County Republican Women, the Hill County Republican Party, and Texas Republican party where she has served as a delegate to the States Convention. The light of her life include her 3 sons and 6 grandchildren. Kay is a fantastic lady and we are very grateful for her advise and her friendship. |
